Zombie Uprising - District 26 Zombie Airsoft Experience in Chesterfield

Zombie Shop attended the launch event of Chesterfield based air-softers Tac-House Spartan's brand new adrenaline-fueled Zombie Experience

Zombie Uprising: District 26

This is our story.

As we pulled up to the gate the armed security personal waved us down. This is it, Zombie Uprising: District 26. Through the restrictive acoustics of their gas-mask they directed into the compound where we parked up and awaited instruction from the other security personnel.

We saw other nervous faces peering out of their vehicles as a military land rover raced out of the undergrowth in a blaze of blue flashing lights. An armed escort leapt out and lead us into the undergrowth towards a command and control centre. We checked in with the sound of the infected ones echoing across the compound and little was said as we were directed into a transport. Once fully embarked we headed back out from the relative safety of the undergrowth.

District 26

As we burst through into the open the devastation became apparent, there really was no more room left in hell and the dead were walking the earth. Attracted by the sound of the vehicle a group of undead shambled towards us, a horde of blood-soaked corpses lumbered towards the land rover as it headed towards an impressive industrial complex.

Keeping clear of the walkers the land rover pulled up outside a set of large gates which opened as we arrived and more security personnel waved us in. Out we jumped and raced inside the gates, the ever present threat of the undead at our heels. Once inside the gates slammed shut and horde pressed against the barrier.

We received a overview of the situation. Selected due to our immunity to the airborne strain of the virus, we would be able to enter the contaminated zone without fear of being infected, unless of course the undead touched us or bit us, and in that case it was curtains.

A senior security adviser split us into deployment teams and briefed us of our mission. Time was of the essence, so after some brief weapons training and equipment issue, we were as ready as we were ever going to be.

We were assigned an armed escort who would lead us into the complex, but due to the nature of the infection he could only take us so far. We were in radio contact with control, "Red Team standing by.", all personnel present and ready, weapons locked and loaded, check. Stand by, Stand by.

Guns trained on the door, we headed into the dark, damp expanse of the abandoned complex.
Deep in the underbelly of the infected zone we heard them; moaning, groaning, shuffling and crawling... towards us. Through shadowy corridors and rooms we were lead until there out of the dark the rotting corpses lumbered, catching our escort off guard. A scuffle broke out and more of the undead joined the feeding frenzy as he fell. In the panic we raced to the only escape route we could find, a confined exit in the wall that lead to a staircase, in the dark, alone!

For the next couple of hours we raced from place to place in the abandoned complex. Making sporadic radio contact with HQ we explored the vast complex, fighting and fleeing the undead the whole time, hearts in our throats, fingers on triggers, breath ragged and short.

Stage by stage we came to understand the layout of the complex, finding clues and getting input and orders from control. We met up with the other teams, albeit fleetingly, and the undead lurched out of the dark as we raced our separate ways in pursuit of our individual team missions.

With ammunition low and adrenaline high the teams finally gathered in one place, defending each other with what little firepower we could now muster to keep the horde at bay. Our mission complete, we radioed control to request back-up. Command and control were being forced to abandon HQ, but they promised to send the land rovers to extract us.

As the final vehicle loaded the last of the survivors I was thrown a shotgun by one of the escaping survivors, and proceeded to unload the remainder of its shells into the oncoming horde, I kept them at bay but could not reach the rear doors myself, so instead of waiting to become a cheap meat-snack I ran... in the direction of our extraction.

As the motorised way out of this hell-hole set off it was all feeling very Black Hawk Down as jogged away from the destruction with a horde of walking corpses at my heels, 100 yards out from the extract point, with a horde of zombies on our tail, the driver stopped to pick me up.

As we pulled into the command and control centre we were inspected by a scientist, 'processed' and segregated very quickly; some to a military tent, others, including myself ended up in an outside fenced area. Once the dust settled it didn't take long to check our wristbands and realise it hadn't ended well for some of us. Let's hope the sacrifice wasn't in vain!

Do you think you've got what it takes to take on the horde at District 26, Will you survive?

Zombie Boot Camp - After Action Report

These are dark days. Chaos has fallen across the land. The plague has spread and the news reports are true; the dead walk among us. Zombies are real. We drew straws, we're not sure if we're the lucky ones, finally getting to do something positive or just fodder, sent into the jaws of the monster.

"Snack on this dead-head!"
We arrived on site amid a flurry of activity. The whir of the inflatable decontamination chamber as the staccato crackle of emergency instructions blare out over a tannoy - Welcome to Zombie Boot Camp.

Quarantine first, a health check to see if we have any of 'the signs' and then decontamination, thorough and precise. Renowned zombie expert Sean T. Page is among us, he reassures us they are checking for all the right signs.

We kit up: boots, fatigues, body armour, helmet and eye protection and then cold utilitarian burden of an M4 carbine. We exchange nervous looks, crack jokes to break the ice as a thought occurs - This is the real deal; we're being trained to fight the undead, and fast.
Dr Uden explains the magnitude of the threat.

Zombie 101 then weapon familiarisation, training, drill and we hit the range.

Run, kneel, safety off, engage target, stand, safety on. Hand signals, vehicle debussing, patrolling "Target front!", bounding firing line.

Do as he says, it just might save you from the ghouls.

Volunteer needed for squad leader? Someone has to do it. My hand goes up involuntarily. What have I done? A volunteer for someone to go first into the breech? Sean steps forward, a braver man than I.

The pace picks up. We patrol the compound. "Targets front." Drop to one knee, safety off, open fire.

Room clearance. "Standby... Go!" pushing into the dark, clattering bulk of our gear jostles with heavy breathing. We fire, scan the room and give the nod. "Clear!" comes the shout and in the next team comes. Terrifying, and this is just an empty room.

Safety's off, at ease, return to the mess tent. Rest, eat, talk and wait. And then the call comes.

Perimeters have been breached, the infected are everywhere, headed this way. We're needed.

"I say we nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure."
We reload, weapons check and then go.

The darkness is broken by flaming detritus, smoke fills the air and drifts across the compound, we press forward, move in bounds, shadows dance in the dark beyond. We reach the compound entrance.

Zombies ambush the squad - "Let's Rock!"
This is it, I'm leading the first entry. In goes the flash-bang, seconds pass like an age, dull boom and my boots hit a concrete floor, I head right and the under slung flashlight on my M4 sweeps the dark recesses of the interior. "Clear!"

On we press, a relay of shouted commands, grenades and shots fires, room after room, relentless moans cut short only by the reports of semi-automatic gunfire.

We rotate. I'm stacked up first again. There's something in that room, I can hear it, taste it -smell it.

Things didn't look so good.

No more grenades, we're going in old school, safety's off, ready to go loud.

The signal comes, we enter. Every move punctuated by a heartbeat.

Out of the darkness a shape rears, groaning, moaning and shambling. It happens so fast. Without thinking I'm looking onto the soulless eyes of an inhuman abomination across iron sights. Bang, head-shot and again, blam!... just to be sure. Sweep and scan, another gnashing and growling, inches from tearing me limb from limb. It's too late. The crack of an M4 and the walking corpse jerks and sprawls at my feet.

Page gives me the nod and shouts "Clear!" as he chews on a Cuban cigar... or is it a flash-bang? It'd hard to tell in the half light.

"Don't be a cheap meat snack!"

In this War Against the Walking Dead we're going to need more than guns, ammo and guts to prevail. Without our training we would have been toast.

We need teamwork, co-operation and someone to watch our six.

And most of all we need Zombie Boot Camp.

Zombie Boot Camp is a mix of Paintball, Live Action Role Playing and Scare attraction. If you're looking for an EPIC day out in Worcestershire. Zombie Boot Camp needs you!

Zombie Boot Camp

The world as we know it has changed. Ever since the rise of the undead the ever-present menace of a single mistake, a needless error or a moment of carelessness hangs over us like Damocles' blade.

Governments have fallen, military order has been wiped from the face of the globe. Now we, the people, must take up arms and join the fight against the shambling horde.

Destroy the shambling horde.

Zombie Boot Camp
Based on the success of their legendary SWAT Team Package and their wickedly over-active imaginations Ram Training are now offering a truly unique Zombie themed experience.

Ram Training's Facility - Apocalypse... Now.

At their 'secret' training facility in Worcestershire you are issued with genuine Kevlar Body Armour and a Kevlar Ballistic Helmet. You get to handle an unbelievably realistic feeling M4 Carbine Paint Marker and semi-automatic airsoft pistols. To supplement your unlimited ammo you are also be issued and instructed in the use of pyrotechnic anti-personnel hand grenades.

"Lock and Load people!"

Zombie Response Training
Room clearance, patrolling and vehicle entry and exit drills are all part of the Zombie Boot Camp experience.

Do as he says. You're in safe hands.

Can 3 hours of basic training prepare you to take the fight to the undead?

Will you laugh in the face of danger, throw your pyrotechnic grenade into the midst of the zombie horde then follow up with a rapid burst of rifle fire?

Zulu down!

With Zombie Boot Camp's training you too can stride effortlessly over the bodies of the fallen, through the smoke and carnage, confident that one less zombie roams this planet.

Nerf Vortex Range - Improved Zomb-pocalypse Rehearsal!

Nerf has long been the staple of intense, action-heavy zombie live action roleplaying games.

Nerf and Zombie Live Action Role Playing; Why?
Well, Nerf blasters are great value, come in bright colours so you won't get yourself into trouble with 'The Man' if someone sees you with one and, they look awesome, taking inspiration from anything from Aliens, Warhammer 40K and Halo and lastly, and possibly most importantly, they allow you to shoot your friends at point blank range in the head. So,allow us zombie LARP gamers to run a zombie simulation without having to resort to goggles and face masks.

Take a Nerf blaster outside or try to hit someone on the other side of a college gymnasium and you quickly realise the range limitations of even a modified blaster. Sniping? A nice idea but not a realistic option.

All that may change with the introduction of the new Vortex range of blasters. Zombie Shop takes a quick look at the most exciting thing to hit the Nerf arsenal since the clip system. The Vortex blaster puts new blaster technology to devastatingly good effect.

The Nerf Vigilon - Judge Dredd's Lawgiver?
New clip-system
The new blaster range does away with the clip-system that is the standard for most current blasters and introduces disc ammo - what looks like little mini Frisbees. Whilst information on the blasters is limited at best, one look at the sneak peek undercover style videos indicates, as the name suggests, the use of a vortex to spin the disc as it fires, in theory increasing stability, accuracy and range without just adding 'power' that would make a blaster hurt, rendering it useless for all sort of legal reasons.

Nerf Proton - Nightfire equivalent?
As always, blaster design is looking top notch with some superb looking introductions to launch the range.

Video indications suggest that accuracy is improved but we're going to have to see for ourselves before we pass comment on that.

Nerf Praxis - Pump action with the new magazine system.
The blaster range comes with the introduction of a striking new colour range, which whilst we're not gonna wax lyrical about, we think will look better than the yellow offerings in the darkened gloom of a zombie infested corridor.

Nerf Nitron - Spec Ops all the way.

Nerf Vortex release date
The release date for the Vortex range is scheduled for 10th October 2011, so we've got a pretty fair wait till these blasters hit the stores. Once they do that we at Zombie Shop will be shooting ourselves in the face just for you, to confirm their Zombie LARP suitability.

Until then, be sure to stock up on Nerf blasters and make sure you're ready for the impending Zombie Apocalypse.

ZombieLARP: Evolution

In the calm before the storm in the run up to the next event, scheduled for September 3rd at the Friar's Walk Mall in Reading, here's a teaser of the chaos that ensued last time ZombieLARP held one of their high-octane Live Action Role Playing events.

Zombie LARP: Evolution

From the ZombieLARP website
Zombie LARP is a physical action game which recreates the thrills and atmosphere of classic zombie horror movies. The dead are returning to life and eating the flesh of the living. The only question is: what are you going to do about it?
(By the way, the word "LARP" stands for "Live Action Role-Play".)

Zombie LARP uses a large crowd of players as zombies who pursue a small team of humans through darkened hallways. When the humans are all dead - or have made it to safety - we swap the roles around, reset, and start again, so that everyone gets a chance to experience the terror from both sides.

The game is run by referees who herd the zombies and devise goals and challenges for the humans. But the outcome depends on the human players' daring, intelligence and survival skills. We've kept the rules to a minimum so that the game is as immersive as possible. Fighting is done using foam-rubber weapons, guns which fire foam darts, and (in the case of zombies) bare hands. This isn't the type of game which stops to check the rulebook: if you're surrounded by zombies, you have to fight or run for your life.

Zombie LARP: a mix of team sport, roleplaying game, improvised theatre, carnival fun house, tactical combat simulation, recurring nightmare, and historical re-enactment of events that will hopefully never happen. But if they do, you'll be ready.
